The Secret of the ‘I’ from The Wisdom of the Overself @ Paul Brunton Philosophic Foundation

The fourth PB e-teaching discusses the nature of the I. The following ideas are from “The Secret of the ‘I'” chapter in The Wisdom of the Overself. Ramana Maharishi frequently referenced the “I” and a deeper “I-I” in his talks, and the ‘I’ was often a subject in Anthony Damiani’s classes.

THE SECRET OF THE ‘I’

The first of our thoughts is ‘I’. All other thoughts follow its arising. It does not stand alone but instantly associates itself with the thought which next follows. And this is the body thought. Unfortunately it ends by limiting itself to the body too, which could never have come into existence at all but for its own prior existence. Thus this association has degenerated into a bondage of the “I’-thought to the body-thought. The only self man believes in today is his body. Consequently the original ‘I’ thought becomes converted into ‘I am the body.’

After this there arises the world-thought. The ‘I’ unconsciously provides the particular space-time characteristics through which the world must first pass before it can emerge into its consciousness. Thus the ‘I’ veritably holds as its own thought both the body and then the world outside the body. But because it began by deceiving itself about its own relation to the body, because it took the body for what it is not, it ends by deceiving itself about the things outside and around the body and takes them for what they are not too. Hence the arising of a triple error: the world, the body and the ‘I’ are all regarded as non-mental.

The ‘I’ every man knows is indeed his self but it is not his ultimate self. When he discovers that his own personal existence is no less a thought-structure than that of his physical surroundings, that everything including himself has an imagined existence, he comes close, very close, to the gate of initiation into a higher world of understanding… ..Jesus told his disciples that when they knew the Truth it would set them free. They were already physically free so the liberation to which he referred could only have been a mental one. Gautama was called ‘Buddha’, which means ‘awakened one’, because he had awakened from the attachment to his own person which was as erroneous as the attachment of the dreaming peasant to his royal self. Then as now the mass of humanity were still so utterly sunk in their thought-made self as to take it for the final one.

The essence of this doctrine is that all these things are ultimately known by the mind, are known only as mental perceptions and therefore can only exist within such a conscious immaterial and untouchable principle of awareness as we know the human mind to be.

Once we comprehend this situation then it becomes possible to find the answer to questions like, why if the person is itself owned and is not the ultimate owner does it seem to own the self; and, why does it yield the feeling of being substantially our real self? The answer is that the witnessing self is present in hidden association or mystic immanence in the personal self and reflects into that self the feeling of its own real existence. Its presence in each one of us thus explains why it is that we have the sense of personal identity at all. But this does not warrant the materialistic illusion which substitutes the personality for what underlies and supports it.

No one can live on money

How many people there are today who have an abstract and confused conception of their own personal lives! If they ask themselves, for example, “What do I live on?” — for the most part, they do not do this, but if they did it once, they would say to themselves, “Why, on my money.” Among those who say to themselves, “I live on my money,” there are many who have inherited this money from their parents. They suppose they live on their money, inherited from their fathers, but we cannot live on money. Money is not something on which we can live. Here it is necessary at last to begin to reflect.

This question is intimately connected with the real interest that one individual has in another. Anyone who thinks he lives on the money he has inherited, for example, or has acquired in any way whatever except by receiving money for work, as is the custom today — whoever lives in this way and supposes that he can live on money has no interest in his fellow men because no one can live on money. We must eat, and what we eat has been produced by a human being. We must have clothing. What we wear must be made through the labor of people. In order that I may put on a coat or a pair of trousers, human beings must expend their strength in labor for hours. They work for me. It is on this labor that I live, not on my money. My money has no value other than that of giving me the power to make use of the labor of others. Under the social conditions of the present time, we do not begin to have an interest in our fellow men until we answer that question in the proper way, until we hold the picture in our minds of a certain number of persons working for a certain number of hours in order that I may live within the social structure. It is of no importance to give ourselves a comfortable feeling by saying, “I love people.” No one loves people if he supposes that he is living on his money and does not in the least conceive how people work for him in order to produce even the minimum necessary for his life.

But the thought that a certain number of persons labor in order that we may possess the minimum necessities of life is inseparable from another. It is the thought that we must recompense society, not with money but with work in exchange for the work that has been done for us. We feel an interest in our fellow men only when we are led to feel obligated to recompense in some form of labor the amount of labor that has been performed for us. To give our money to our fellow men only signifies that we are able to hold our fellow men on a leash as bound slaves and that we can compel them to labor for us.

REMOVING IMPLANTS AND EMPOWERING YOURSELF
Non-physical implants are generally described as “etheric” or “energetic.” They can be implanted in various places in your Being or field and they affect the frequency of the energy where they are located.
Many implants have dissolved as we hold higher and higher levels of Light here on Earth. Some implants are part of your blueprint and can only be changed when downloading a new blueprint.  Others remain in your Being/field and some of these are the ones we want to remove.
Examples of implants that we want to remove are residual implants from past lives ~ generally, these are the ones that need to be removed because they create energetic blocks. We also want to remove any other implants that do not serve our highest and best interests.
The good news is that you can remove these implants yourself. You do not need to ask other people to remove your implants and you certainly do not need to pay to have implants removed. You can do that if you like, but it is not necessary.

Jenny Schiltz, one of our crew members (a member of the Galactic Brotherhood/Sisterhood of Light, just like the rest of us), has received the following guidance from Sananda regarding implant removal. Sananda suggests to simply state (and intend) the following once a day:
I ask that all contracts, cords, agreements, threads, attachments, implants, thought patterns, thought forms and thought creations that no longer serve my highest good be cut and healed going past, present, future across all timelines, dimensions, realities, aspects of self, and through past lives. It is so, it is done.
Sananda confirms that anyone can remove their own implants. He adds, “They need to be careful and not paint a broad brush and remove them all.” It’s important to remember to ask that only things that no longer serve our highest good be removed.

Sananda also says that it is okay to ask for help from others ~ that many are gifted and can help you a lot. And paying for services is okay, too. However, the minute someone tells you that only they can do something, there is a power issue. It is no different than a Catholic priest saying he must talk to god for you.

Taking responsibility for your own Being and journey and energy is a great way to empower yourself. That is part of mastery ~ owning your power. If somebody tells you that you need their spiritual services or assistance and that there is something that you cannot do for yourself, with the help of your own guides and team, you might want to take a step back and ask yourself why that person is trying to disempower you. And then you can decide if you want to give your power away to that person or not. It is all up to you. Remember that a true Lightworker will always seek to empower others, not make them dependent on himself. And a true teacher will aspire to teach you how to help yourself, not keep you under her thumb.

I’d like to point out one more thing here. Please keep in mind that the spiritual journey toward higher levels of consciousness is one that is available to everybody on this planet. The Light coming in and the Tsunami of Love is for everybody, not just wealthy people or people with computers or access to spiritual “gurus.” In other words, somebody who lives what you might think of as a primitive existence who has never read a book or seen a computer or watched Oprah has the exact same opportunity to ascend as all of us who are reading this online right now. A “primitive” or isolated person doesn’t need access to spiritual gurus or life coaches or channelers or special crystals or magic water because, just like us, everything s/he needs is within.

Yes, it is beneficial to use spiritual tools and to ask other people for assistance and information. In fact, some people and some tools can be very helpful. And we are here to help each other. All I am saying is that these things are never a necessity. The Light is inclusive. Love is inclusive. It doesn’t matter whether you have money for ascension classes or organic foods or healing sessions. Love and Light will always be yours even if you’re short on cash or you don’t have access to the internet to get the latest portal update. The Kingdom of Heaven is within and truly understanding that (integrating that Truth) is key to empowering yourself and making the quantum leaps that will propel you to higher levels of consciousness. Everything you need is within you and with the assistance of your team of guides, you can always get where you want to go.
